Scarheart's Ceremony and the Start of Everything

Scarheart has decided that she has served her life, as a warrior, in LakeClan well! She has decided that she will become an elder!

Scarheart, is it your wish to give up your the name and rank of a warrior and go to join the elders?"

"It is."

"Your clan honours you and all of your service you have given us.I call upon StarClan to give you many seasons of rest!

Scarheart! Scarheart! Scarheart!

Let you live your life well, and have lots of rest! Scarheart, do you have any ideas on who should be Hailpaw's mentor now? I will let you pick.

------------------------------------------------------

Grayshadow padded outside. She was hunting by herself because she needed some fresh air and alone time. The camp was much to busy with lots and lots of hunting patrols going out. Grayshadow sniffed the air. She smelled a faint hint of prey. She dropped down and padded forward. Looking for where the valuable piece of prey was. Grayshadow finally spotted the huge raven that was pecking at the ground. A smile played at her mouth, and she continued onward, more enthusiastically. This raven would feed the queens AND the elders! Then, with one flash of gray and a cut of shriek of the bird, the raven was dead and Grayshadow was holding it triumphantly. Grayshadow brought it back to camp, where Adder was heading out. She handed it to him, then ran off again. She didn't trust burying it in this much needed time of food.

As Grayshadow swiftly, yet quietly, ran back to where she killed the raven, she scented the truth of everything. Grayshadow stopped, and raised her head. Her eyes widened as she saw this sight. The sight unlike any others. Huge cats were running in her direction. Grayshadow stifled a yowl and started to turn back, when she was frozen where she was.

"Death will kill death. Life will live life. Six will be six."

Grayshadow cowered in fear. She did not like those words. It had been a few moons since she had seen the vision, after a while she thought it was just all in her head.  Grayshadow looked back to where the bigger cats were walking, to see one right about to walk into the area she was in. She did not want to be discovered, and she especially didn't want to lead these cats to the clan. It seemed that they didn't know about the clans, but they had a look in their eye that showed this is their territory now.

Grayshadow slowly moved away. Being as quiet as she ever was, then when she was out of, what she thought was hearing distance, she ran back to camp.

********

Grayshadow ran in to see only five other cats in particular. Sorrelkit was begging Dreamstar for something, Smokepaw was padding to the fresh-kill pile, Driftbreeze was watching Everpaw pad around and scowl under her breath.  Missingfoot was looking for Larkpaw, and Shinerain was basking in the cool leaf-bare sun with Treebreeze. Then, everything other then Grayshadow, Shinerain, Missingfoot, Driftbreeze, Smokepaw and Sorrelkit, seemed to freeze. They all looked over at Grayshadow. Sorrelkit let out a whimper as fear crossed her face. Grayshadow looked at what those five were looking at behind her.....

She turned around to see the same giant black cat as before, standing over her and studying the clans home. The cat looked down at Grayshadow, and it seemed to Grayshadow that he smirked....Right then he padded right over her and roared. The whole clan cowered in fear as this unknown cat proclaimed his dominance....

(comment under this post for the sort of fight....and just if people are wondering, these "cats" are like lynx's or something!)

*Grayshadow watched the tom study the clan cats. Snowleaf was gathering her kits beside her, and so were the other queens. Grayshadow shook her head, what was happening? This couldn't be true?*

Dreamstar - I got the comment about your betta. I don't think the tank will be the problem, especially if it's made for bettas, but if it's round shaped it's possible that it just makes him dizzy. I've had a few bettas who HATE bowls because it makes everything in the outside world looked bowed.

If he's laying at the bottom of the tank but looks otherwise healthy, he may just be bored. My betta Clover gets depressed when he doesn't see one of my females. But if his fins are frayed, he looks really fat, or he seems to be struggling when he swims to the top to take a breath, he may either have a swim bladder problem or is old and... Well, you get the picture. I've had 25 bettas over the years (only 4 are living now) and I've seen this a lot. You just never know how old they are when you get them, and I've had bettas who lived for 2 weeks to over a year (the normal life span). My eldest male Cloud (who is blind in one eye) has the same problem as yours.

Really, there's nothing to do but hope for the best. I'm sure that if the tank isn't the problem, especially if it's been cleaned and he's lived there for a while. Maybe you could try putting a mirror next to his bowl for him to look at? Oh, and something that really cheers up my bettas is dried bloodworms. They aren't as gross as they sound, and it makes bettas feel like they are hunting in the wild.

Oh! I nearly forgot. This is going so sound really dumb if you already know this, but some newer fish owners don't... The water is dechlorinated, right?

Your betta will be in my prayers, I hope that he'll get better. Bettas are really tough fish. ;)

Good, I'm glad he seems OK now. Bettas are so awesome, and I see you've joined the realm of fishy-lovers now. Including my aquarium fish, I have 15 fish total, but I've had 77 in all. :D

Oh, I think you told me somewhere, but what is his name and what does he look like? Clover is a silver/green/red crowntail male, Cloud is a purple/white crowntail male, Valentina is a red/cream deltatail female, and Winter is a VERY small silver/white female.

Ooh, Ember! That's one of my favorite names for pets, and the funny thing is that I almost named my red crowntail that! But I chose Aslan instead because it better fit his personality. He has sadly passed away though. That was the only betta that I actually kept with a female his whole life! Crazy dangerous, but I made sure I got two really calm fish and they never even flared at each other once. Sadly, because I kept them in the community aquarium they didn't breed either, but that was OK.

As I've always said, bettas are like potato chips; you can never have just one! I actually plan to be a betta breeder someday and a freshwater fish veterinarian... In addition to adventure/mystery writer, dog agility trainer, and hopefully graphic designer!

Yep, my first two pets were actually a mouse (Kasey) and a betta (Vicky). They were best friends and had 'adventures' in my room. And I've always owned at least one of each ever since!

LOL I see you have one of those attack bettas! I've had a lot of those, but right now all of my bettas are pretty calm about their food. Only little Winter attacks her food, and only when it's bloodworms.

So you actually have a tank for him? Neat! Mine are just in smaller betta containers, each a little less than a half gallon.

I suggest that if you do get another betta to try to look for a female. I've owned both and let me tell you, I'm actually more of a fan of the female! They may look dull at first, but once you bring her home and start feeding her the good pellets, her color will come out. I once adopted a brown female, and a week later her fins turned out to be edged with a lovely shade of red and some blue came out on her scales. They also generally have a more defined personality than most males.

Be prepared for a long comment, here are the descriptions of my bettas.

Clover is the biggest of my bettas. He thinks he is a king, but he actually gets scared of new things very easily. He loves flaring at my females, too! He's certainly one of my best fish and I love his beautiful silvery color... And he knows it!

Cloud is the calmest betta I've ever owned, and maybe the smartest too! He never flares at anything, he always seems to be pondering important matters, and he spooks less easily than my others. And he's also BLIND in one eye! I had noticed when I adopted him that one of his eyes was a strange dark blue but thought nothing of it until I noticed his trouble with judging the distance of his food, and he also doesn't seem to notice me out of one eye. Poor thing, he also has some gill and fin deformities.

When I saw Valentina I just HAD to get her, because she was a deltatail (which are kind of rare to find) with a PERFECTLY heart-shaped tail! And she was red and cream! How perfect is that? Her name came naturally. She's really noble and often seems to think too highly of herself to mingle with my other fish.

Don't tell my other three, but Winter is probably the cutest fish I've EVER owned. I've always dreamed of owning a rare albino betta, but that is nearly impossible. Even bettas with TRUE white markings (snowy white, not just clear) are hard to find. So when I went on a normal trip to Walmart and saw a SOLID SNOWY-WHITE female betta - pale eyes and all! - She was mine in an instant! She's also the smallest betta I've ever owned. I've adopted young bettas before, but even now that she's grown, Winter is half the size of my others. I am starting to suspect that fish with true white markings have some genetic problems, because Cloud (purple/white) is blind, Winter isn't growing, and my now deceased betta Belle (blue/white, who I also adopted young) lived a lot shorter than she should have. I hope Winter lives a long life, because she's SO cute and sweet! And she loves nibbling my fingers, LOL!

Good luck with getting more 'swimming potato chips'! Betta lovers unite, LOL!

You know what, I think you have the same type of container for Ember as I have for Clover! Does it look like this?

http://www.petsunleashed.com.au/images/products/0155611340261.jpg

That's what I got for Clover and he loves it. It makes him feel like he's running a whole aquarium. :) And mine actually isn't mounted on the wall, it's just on a shelf with my other three bettas in between my gerbil and mice.

Valentina has a large vase with a flower-shaped top. She doesn't seem to mind the shape. Cloud and Winter actually share a container, but it's divided. They don't have as much room as the other two, but Cloud needs a small space to see his food and Winter is so tiny that it's just right for her.

Poor hamster! I'm actually kind of glad I don't have cats. Though I love them, my family has 6 dogs, 3 small rodents, 4 bettas, and a 10 gallon freshwater aquarium. A cat would NOT fit in there. Aside from that, both my parents are really allergic (Luckily I'm not) and my dad doesn't like cats walking on his 'precious cars'.

I've had a lot of fantails, but now my Walmart has started carrying crowntails and deltatails too. I currently have one of each (Well, two crowntails).

Cool! Mine is about a half gallon. It's a fairly good size, so I can have a large decoration in the middle. I'm planning on getting one of those for each of my bettas once I earn up enough money. They're awesome!

Yeah, my best friend actually has 4 cats and a betta with that container. She hasn't mounted hers on the wall, so she always has to make sure to shut the door, or else her cats will come in and eat her betta Moonbeam! She got Moonbeam (A purple and red fantail male) the same day that I got Winter.

It actually doesn't take too long, maybe 15 minutes including scrubbing (I keep them next to a window so they get a little algae in their bowls sometimes). I clean the water once every one or two weeks, depending on how busy I am and if any algae is forming on the sides.

It's actually kind of hard for me, because my room is upstairs and I have to carry all three containers down one at a time to my bathroom where my aquarium supplies are. Then I put each betta in the original cup I bought them in (I save them all) and clean the water all at once.

Yeah, it used to take me a long time too, but after owning 25 bettas AND having dozens of fish in my community aquarium for over five years, I'm getting used to the routine. I just scrub, dump, rinse, and fill. Luckily Clover, Cloud, and Valentina all know the drill too, however little Winter puts up a quite fight when I try to temporarily put her back in her cup. I'm usually good at catching fish (Especially from that ich epidemic in my aquarium two years back, long and sad story), but she's so tiny I'm afraid that any fast movement may hurt her.

Fortunately, my Walmart carries good fish and nice variety of bettas. But I also have a local Petsense (I LOVE that store!) and a random pet store in town.
Petco has some really good bettas too, but I personally don't trust Petsmart. Petsmart has entire walls of bettas stacked on top of each other, and I have no idea how they could possibly make sure to feed them each everyday. Poor fish. Then again, I've known a few Petcos to do that as well.
